I am so happy to share Veronica & Adam’s Engagement session which we shot at the St. Augustine Lighthouse (one of my new favorite spots).I photographed this session on New Years Day and it was such a lovely way to kickstart the new year.  I know Veronica put a lot of thought into their outfits which could not have been any more perfect against the lighthouse. These two will tie the knot in October at the Treasury in St. Augustine.  I am completely smitten with this session and can not wait to photograph their wedding day.

Photos shot on portra 400 film & developed and scanned by The Find Lab

The shot below is my favorite shot to date.:)

Next, we headed over to the lighthouse park and went down by the water.

This sun kissed session with the Eaves was just perfect. I photographed their engagement, wedding, and now sweet little family. They welcomed baby Wilder into their family about six months ago. This session was in St. Augustine at Anastasia State Park. It’s one of the prettiest beaches in st. augustine with all the tall grasses and I just love shooting there.  Also, can we all just look at Jessica’s hair? It was such a humid hot afternoon and I have no idea how her hair stayed so perfect. She did have her hair professionally done which makes such a difference in the Florida heat.

They also brought along their nephew who was adorable.

I remember when I first started my business, I really only wanted to shoot weddings and shy away from family sessions. Well that was a rookie thought because now I truly love & enjoy my lifestyle sessions with families.

They say when you have kids, the days are long, but the years short. It’s a true honor to capture these fleeting moments for families.

We have known Galen & Jessee for some time now and have watched their family grow. Galen is one of the cutest pregnant ladies and I knew this session was going to be sweet. We walked around downtown St. augustine chasing Jameson around, who by the way is a little charmer. We love the Harrigans.

Gabrielle + Baron first of all are adorable and secondly are such kind people. So of course, their wedding day in the spring was filled of love, beauty, authenticity, and so much joy. They married in the heart of downtown St. Augustine at Ximenz-Fatio House. I still have no idea how to produce it, but there is insane beauty behind every inch and cranny of this property. We felt like we were shooting a wedding in Europe with Orange Trees.

Hope you enjoy this wedding. We certainly did. Oh and it was Alex & I’s last wedding until our son arrives in July. Oliver was a great helper that day.:)

I feel like since I have started shooting film I have grown as a photographer. It has stretched me and taken me out of my comfort zone. In my life, growth has always come from being stretched. But,  for some reason when my film camera is in my hand, I feel like I am painting. It’s truly magical.:) I will have to write another blog post on the steps I took to learn film photography, but for now, here are the things I have learned from shooting film.

  1. slow down. In the digital world, we can snap as many photos as we want and take 30 photos of the same thing. But I would be in the poor house if I did that with film. At first it was a scary feeling wondering whether or not I got the shot, but then time and time again of seeing the results of film, I have learned to trust myself with the shot and it is a actually freeing. I take the photo and I move on.
  2. Exposure. With digital, I used to just use my in camera light meter and not really even look at my exposure settings. But with film, I have to use a hand held light meter. This one  It reads the light and will give you a correct exposure. Then you can take that exposure setting and input it in your camera. I love the look of bright and airy images, so I always overexpose my images by one stop.
  3. patience. after a session, I can not go home and look through my images. I have to send my film away to film lab (The Find Lab)  and they develop my film, scan the images and email me the photos.  This whole process takes about two weeks. And of course, it is like christmas morning every time I get an email from them letting me know my images are ready.

I could go on, but these are just a few things that come to mind. Here is a lovely maternity session of our dear friends Melissa + Justin in downtown St. Augustine. Baby Oscar, we can not wait to meet you.:)
